Mirto Murray

Mirto F. Murray was born in 1968 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and grew up there until the age of eight when, against the grain, the family moved to Suriname after Suriname's independence. There he spent his teenage years and young adolescence and studied Surinamese law at the university in Suriname. In 1989, Mirto began his studies in Dutch Law at the University of Amsterdam. After an internship in Curaçao, he was offered a job as a lawyer before his studies were completed.

Fast forward and nearly thirty years later, Mirto is still a lawyer in Curaçao and is managing partner of the boutique law firm he founded, Murray Attorneys at Law, which specializes in corporate, commercial and financial criminal law and as such, provides legal advice and assistance to local and international corporations, high net worth individuals as well as local and foreign governments and government entities. The firm has a partnership with his friend and top criminal lawyer in the Netherlands, Gerard Spong.

Mirto is praised for his legal knowledge, dedication and solution-oriented thinking by his professional peers, clients and even opposing parties! At barely 31 years of age, he was the youngest dean of the Curaçao Bar Association; a record that still stands. In the past, he has taught part time at institutions of higher learning.

Mirto has also been chairman of the editorial board of the Caribisch Juristenblad and to this day he is a member of the editorial board and regularly publishes scholarly articles as well as approachable legal articles in daily newspapers. Mirto is also the editor of the now indispensable handbook 'The Parliamentary History of the Curaçao Civil Code' which is the only one that contains the complete text and explanatory notes of the Civil Code.

Besides being a lawyer, Mirto is also a member of the Supervisory Board of a financial institution and a board member of the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds Caribisch Gebied. In addition, he is writing a dissertation on integrity requirements for ministers and state secretaries in the Kingdom of the Netherlands and it is a cherished wish of his to write another legal novel.

Finally, Mirto is married to Flory and together they have a 13-year-old son. Accompanied by them, Mirto likes to travel the world and enjoy life, good food and, if possible, an amaretto sour.
